Just another day in Brazil

Woke up on Saturday and finally decided to buy a juicer.  In Brazil, fresh squeezed orange juice is one of the few things you can enjoy at a very cheap price. When we had a craving and weren't at a restaurant we'd resort to our Flintstone manual juicer which took quite a bit of time.  After Cathy got back in the morning from the weekly grocery shopping excursion, we all headed out to a store that was recommended to us for juicers.  The trip started by us sitting in traffic for 25 minutes for what should have been a 2 minute trip, when we arrived it then took about 2.2 seconds before Maddie picked up and shattered a glass on the ground to make our grand entrance even grander.  Finding and purchasing the juicer was the easiest part -- 20 minutes later our excited family was on our way home with a product that would reduce juice making time by tenfold.

By the time we got home it was 11:30AM and a perfect pool day -- so the juicer remained in the box and the whole family headed down to the pool and arrived by 11:50.  After mingling with the usual pool side clan while the kids played, we went up to the Club (actually spelled Clube and pronounced clubby) and ordered up some lunch... and ice cream treats as well.  By the time we got back home it was about 2:30pm.  I immediately got changed and headed for the gym while Cathy got Dylan ready for his afternoon nap.  Turns out Madison wanted to sleep as well, which is unusual, but nice for Cathy since she was able to do a LITTLE bit of online shopping in a quiet house.  I made it back from the gym at 3:30 and had some time for myself as well, I ended up resting on the couch while Cathy continued her shopping excursion.

During the peaceful quiet time, we decided that once the kids got up we would head over to Starbucks since we haven't been there in a couple weeks -- this trip is an easy one since the kids like to go there too, for the blueberry muffin.  So around 4:30ish the kids awoke from their slumber, we figured if we could get them in the car and head out by 5pm we could be home by 6.  As planned, the whole family was on our way to Starbucks at 5pm -- with a little bit of rain to slow us down.  Then a few miles from the Starbucks we came across an unusual amount of people selling ponchos on the street -- this wasn't a good sign since we pass a huge soccer stadium on our way to the Starbucks.  As we got closer we had easily passed 50 people on the streets selling ponchos, at this point we knew our trip was going to take a bit more time -- but we pressed on.  While we were stopped in front of the stadium we wondered, what is going on?  It didn't look like a soccer crowd outside that was for sure -- so what could it be?  When you are sitting in traffic here in Brazil your car is approached by random street vendors on a daily basis, on this trip, one man stuck out like a sore thumb -- he was holding a purple ribbon across the front of our windshield for about 10 seconds.... so we decided to read it before giving him the thumbs down to move on.  The ribbon read:  "I Love Justin Bieber"!   I gave the man a confident thumbs down and he laughed.  You can't escape Bieber mania no matter where you live!  Anyway, the chaos by the stadium added 30 minutes to our trip and we returned home by 6:30pm, 30 minutes past our scheduled arrival time.

As soon as we opened the door we immediately hit the kitchen to prepare dinner -- don't forget the earlier purchase in the day, the fresh squeezed OJ was a must, and with the new piece of capital machinery in our kitchen it only took about 5 minutes to prepare 3 full glasses of fresh squeezed juice.  By 6:45pm both kids were sitting at the table --while I was cleaning up the kitchen, Cathy was changed and headed down to the gym.  The next hour passed by in a blur -- split between playing with toy elephants with Dylan while in parallel participating at a tea party hosted by MadisonCathy arrived back at 7:50pm in time to see the kids streaking to the bathroom and jumping into the tub -- and by 8:10 they were on the couch for the pics above, Maddie tucked Dylan in next to her to watch the Max and Ruby episode we have seen 50 times.

By 8:40pm both kids were in bed and we decided to eat some cheese and crackers and drink a glass of wine at the kitchen table while a pizza was cooking in the oven.  While the pizza was cooking I downloaded a movie rental for the evening as well.  Fortunately the movie was decent, I gage the quality of a movie these days by my ability to stay awake for the entire flick... immediately after the movie I was fast asleep (at midnight) and up at 6:25am with Madison standing bedside... on to another adventure.
