Uncomfortable silence

After letting Little D explore the apartment unsupervised for a while -- and followed by a moment of uncomfortable silence -- I asked Madison to check on him, she came back and reported that he was being bad and sitting on the table.

A quick tune up before they hit the open road.

Lazy weekend

This started when Dylan discovered the glasses in the toy box... the rest is history.

We had a nice relaxing weekend in which we did absolutely nothing!  I guess we did have some company over on Saturday night -- other than that, we managed to find ways to pass the time.

Embu

Before we headed out on vacation we took a trip to a town about 15km away called Embu.  It's basically a town packed full of little craft shops.  Popup and I hung out at a local watering hole while Cathy, Nana and the kids toured the streets.

Vacation week (continued) - Porto de Galinhas

Playing in the rain.

Little D defrosting after his nap.

Morning time.

Dylan laying back on the chair outside enjoying a quick bite before we headed out for breakfast.

For the next four days -- we traveled about 2 hours away (by car) from Olinda to Nannai Beach Resort just outside Porto de Galinhas.  I asked Madison which place she liked better, Olinda or Nannai -- she told me Nannai because the ketchup tasted better.

Vacation week - Olinda

We saw about 100 of these critters running around on our trip, this guy was actually running on the ground at the outdoor restaurant we were at.  About a minute later we saw a few monkeys in the trees as well, unfortunately my camera skills were lacking at the time.

The four pics above were from an old church in Olinda.

The two pics above were from a jail that stopped operating in 1976.  All of the cells were transformed into little shops, except for the one with the kids in front (Cell 106 - they left this one untouched from when the place closed).

Every barrel is filled to the brim with cachaca.

The 6 pics above are from a Cachaca distillery (Carvalheira was the brand).  Cachaca is the main ingredient in Brazil's famous caipirinha drink.

The first two days of our trip we stayed in a nearly 500 year old town called Olinda.  We toured the town and took the kids on a few mini field trips which included an old Church, a closed down prison and a Cachaca distillery... a bit different than Maddie's first field trip at school where they visited a farm.
