After bath and just before bed

Does he look happy here or what!  Dylan was dragging by the time we got him ready for his bath tonight.  Bath time for Little D consists of a wipe down with a wet cloth, which he really isn't a fan of.

Score!

Mom found the perfect chair for a spica cast.  Dylan spends a good portion of the day happily playing in this contraption... I vote this as the best purchase yet.

First Hair Cut

Yes, after 3 years, Maddie finally had enough hair for an official cut.  Mom had pulled the scissors out in the past for a couple quick fix-its, but never the real thing.  Maddie enjoyed the experience, the first of many.

The Little Photographer Strikes Again

Maddie snapped this pic of Little D today --another good one, up close and personal.  Dylan has been doing well.  He's on a better sleep schedule and Cathy has come up with some good play areas around the house to keep him happy.  The stroller project was much easier than I had anticipated too.  We bought an umbrella stroller, cut out a side for his leg, and voila -- we just slide his leg through the cutout, clip him in, and he's ready to go.  Last weekend we ventured out to the mall for a 2 hour excursion (need to stay in the AC with his cast)... the trip was a success and all members of the family enjoyed themselves.

Puzzled? I don't think so!

Maddie assembled this 45-piece playground puzzle with little outside assistance.

Case Closed!

Maddie finally decided to provide her definition for "Nanick", recall that Cathy and I both had our own theories (see Link).  As it turns out we were pretty close....

Day 3 - 81 to Go

We're 3 full days into it now, quite the challenge but Dylan is handling it much better than I was expecting.  This cast stays on for 6 weeks and then for weeks 7-12 he gets a smaller version that stops at his knees.  He doesn't appear to be in any pain, more-so angry that he cannot move around anymore.  The cast weighs about 10lbs and not much of what we have at home (car seat, high chair, stroller, etc) accommodates for a cast like this.  We were able to RENT a car seat from the hospital which of course is not covered by insurance.  For the upcoming weekend I plan on making some aftermarket modifications to one of our strollers, this will involve many of my power tools along with the possibility of added components.

Simple Summer Fun

Nana managed to get Maddie in the Elmo sprinkler... she carefully assesses her surroundings (for several minutes) before making the leap.

Counting down the Days

We have a few more days before Dylan's surgery, Monday is the big day.  From there it will be 6-12 weeks in a cast, then he can pick up where he left off (Dylan's been motoring around on all fours and pulling himself up to standing).  Hoping the clock moves fast for the next 3 months.

Time Off

Blog content has been light this past week for good reason, we took a trip up north while the kids were being entertained back home by Nana and Pup-pup.  Weather was perfect - soaked up some sun, did a lot of reading and made it to a couple of nice restaurants... relaxation at its finest.
